Chimborazo-Ecuador

The sun began to set as I stood outside the climbers hut on Mt. Chimborazo. Fog rose from the landscape in strange swirls of mist. As the sun dropped below the horizon the mist turned flaming red with scarlet streaks that reached skyward from the burnt earth. It was as if a huge fire engulfed the world. I glanced sideways and saw the hut attendant sitting on a rock, slowly inhaling his cigarette. Each pull would light the end of his smoke in the same red glow that seemed to burn the earth before me.
