The Isle of Mull- Scotland

After leaving Islay we took the two hour ferry in beautiful weather back to the mainland terminal at Kennacraig and drove to the next ferry terminal located in the town of Oban. We met Tim’s cousin Alison and took the ferry to the Island of Mull. Tim, Ian and myself had a campsite reserved for two nights and after setting up our tents we drove to Tobermory, a town with multi colored buildings, a wonderful traditional Scottish pub and a restaurant (The Mishnish Hotel) that provided the best meal I would have in Scotland. We picked up another friend of Tim’s, Nigel who had taken the ferry later in the day. Nigel, Tim and I would hike up our first Munro, Ben More, the next day. Ben More was another bog slog in the rain with clouds on the summit. The summit stop was short due to the wind and rain but Nigel had brought a thermos of hot coffee which warmed one all the way through. Alison arrived with the car just as we finished our descent and the four of us (Ian had decided to hike another hill on the same island) found a small pub for food and pints of beer while we were entertained by a couple of very intoxicated fishermen who danced jigs to the Celtic music being played over the sound system. Journal: “The sunset from camp was wonderful. We are camped on a lakeshore and the crescent moon reflects on the water while I stand and sip on a scotch whisky. The air is damp and quite chilly now that the sun has set. Standing there watching the moon set was a very nice end to a day.”
