Two Hummock Island-Antarctica

2001-From my understanding Two Hummock Island was first explored and skied by Roald Amundsen during the Belgian Antarctic Belgica Expedition in 1898. We arrived on the island and our group split into two parties with one group climbing an unnamed peak on one side of the island and us the other which Amundsen had previously climbed/skied. We were the second ascent according to our group leader, Australian, Greg Mortimer. The ascent was straightforward steep snow. On the summit I stood staring across an ice filled bay bordered by peaks that had not seen human steps. The light was surreal in its silver grey lack of color. The clarity and pure rawness of the physicality crept into my core. I was joyful yet numb, confusing when I think about it.
